Hardship Boarding
The Rhode Island SPCA's Anchored Paws Program, sponsored by Falvey Insurance Group, provides a temporary home for pets when their caregiver is in crisis. By offering temporary pet boarding to the victims of domestic violence or veterans requiring hospitalization, the RISPCA is committed to keeping families together.
For a victim of domestic violence, finding a safe place for a pet can often mean the difference between staying in an abusive home or leaving. With temporary shelter and vet care for their pet, these victims become survivors who ultimately reunite with their animal as they embark on a safe, new life together. Veterans are more likely to seek help for substance abuse or mental health issues if they know they have a safe place for their pets while they are undergoing treatment. The RISPCA is that safe haven.
The RISPCA works with local domestic violence agencies and social workers to provide foster care and temporary housing for up to 30 days.
Our ability to accept pets into this program depends on the population at the shelter at any given time.
