Here at the RISPCA Animal Health Center we have been fielding many calls related to spaying and neutering pets. Recognizing the growing need in the community, we have created a new program. WESNP (we snip!) is open to owned cats, dogs, and rabbits.

How to qualify:

Owner: There are no financial qualifications! All pet parents can take advantage of this program.

Pet: To be a candidate for WESNP, pets will need to be under five years of age and healthy. However, if your pet is over 5 years of age, he/she may still qualify! If over 5 years old your pet will need an exam with one of our veterinarians and bloodwork run prior to scheduling surgery. This is done with package pricing of $174 and includes a comprehensive exam, bloodwork that includes a small chemistry panel that tests liver and kidney function, and a cbc which tests red and white blood cells. If the exam and bloodwork results are normal, your pet is fit to snip!

Frequently Asked Questions

  • It depends on species, gender, and any add-ons you select. But you can access our comprehensive price list here.

  • Nope! Anyone can use this program.

  • Pets with heart murmurs cannot participate in WESNP for the safety of the pet. The anesthetic protocol used in high quality high volume spay/neuter (HQHVSN) includes drugs that are contraindicated for use in pets with impaired cardiac function.

  • Brachycephalic pets cannot participate in WESNP for a few reasons. They require additional nursing care and supplemental oxygen after surgery, require IV catheters, and can require different drugs to be used for anesthesia. We do perform brachycephalic spays and neuters, just not at the WESNP price point.

  • You’ll be scheduled for a surgical intake appointment between 8:15am and 9:00am depending on species and gender. *Drop-off after 9:00am will result in an extra fee.

  • You’ll be scheduled for a surgical discharge appointment between 3:45pm and 5:15pm depending on species and gender. *Late pick up will result in an extra fee.

  • Not to worry! We’ll send you home with a surgical discharge sheet with all of the do’s and don’ts at the intake appointment so that you can review it before pick-up. If you would like to review the post-op instructions now, please click one of the following links:

  • Short answer, yes… for a price. Please visit the price list to see what the costs are for add-on services.

  • We’re different for a few reasons.

    1. We don’t automatically decline performing surgery based on age. At the RISPCA Animal Health Center we’re firm believers in the old adage that “age is not a disease”. If your pet is 8 years old but deemed healthy as a horse after an exam and bloodwork, he/she can participate in the same WESNP program that a one year old pet can.

    2. Spay/neuter isn’t all that we do. On the other days of the week our veterinarians are performing non-routine surgery such as mass removals, dentistry, etc.

    3. Every dollar that we make goes directly to the RISPCA (because we are part of the RISPCA!) for the care of our resident shelter animals.
